The ZigRay™ includes a microprocessor, radio, and an integrated PCB antenna in a small footprint. The radio uses the Freescale™ MC13192/3 device which is based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The Freescale™ MC9S08GT60 (FLASH) microprocessor contains the Media Access Control (MAC) firmware. For ZigBee™ applications, the optional ZigBee™ protocol stack firmware is preloaded at the factory.
The ZigRay™ offers built-in flexibility for different applications. It can be used where power consumption must be minimized to achieve maximum battery life, or where longer transmission distance is required in non-battery applications. This flexibility is achieved by integrating both a low noise amplifier (LNA) and a power amplifier (PA) on the module. Both the LNA and PA can be turned on or off independent of each other. When turned off, the LNA and PA do not draw current, and battery life is extended. The integrated PCB antenna is sufficient for most applications.
The ZigRay™ is FCC and IC certified for easy integration into an OEM product. The module requires 3.0V, and the host interface is serial TTL. Eight general purpose digital I/O lines and five 10-bit A/D's are available on an industry standard 20-pin connector.
Tecnova offers product design and development, and can integrate the ZigRay™ into an OEM product, or customize the ZigRay™ for high volume applications.
